More about Marian

Picture
Being away from my native land gives me a deep yearning for it. This longing finds its expression in my work and their titles: emotions associated with affection and expressions of identity.  It is a pleasure to share these with everyone.
Marian was born, raised and educated in the Philippines.  She was first introduced to art in preparatory school and, throughout her life, was encouraged by her family and art teachers.  After graduating from the University of the Philippines with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration, she worked in sales and marketing.

Marian
has lived in the United Arab Emirates, Brunei, Portugal and the United States.  She settled in England for good in 1995 and worked in office management and administration, a role she held for 20 years.

It was also in 1995 that Marian learned how to sculpt by attending classes at an adult learning centre for ten years.  She joined the Surrey Sculpture Society in 2001 and has served on the Committee for several years, in various roles, most recently as the Editor of the digital magazine, Limited Edition.

One of the things people notice about Marian’s sculptures is their unusual titles which are emotive words from the Philippine language.  Through her work, Marian’s intentions are to convey positive emotions, establish a connection with the viewer and spark an interest in her native Philippines.

Ligid (Wheel)
Edition of five in Jesmonite and sandstone filler
Sold out

Ligid means "wheel" or "to roll around".  Have you ever imagined what it would be like to fit yourself into a wheel and what configuration would help you roll around?  This sculpture was inspired by the work of the sculptor and designer, Eric Gill.
